No dance experience needed at ‘Awake Movement’ studio

Founder of Awake Movement, a new Dance Studio in Nambour, Abigail Wake has worked in Los Angeles with entertainers like Kelly Rowland and Kelly Clarkson.

But it was only after moving to Australia that she realised her passion for dance extended to teaching children and adults of all abilities.

Now, as well as her regular classes at Nambour, Gunalda and Eumundi, Abigail has staged classes for children and adults of all abilities, giving everyone  a place to call home.

“I realised there was no space that was welcoming and supportive and that helped people with more high level challenges feel like they belonged. And so I decided to change that,” said Abigail.

“I taught Compass special needs children who are on the spectrum. I didn’t for one second allow anyone to feel they weren’t safe and didn’t belong. The world does that enough. To create a home for everyone to be seen, heard and felt, is what brings me true joy.

“It’s that joy that we want everyone we teach to be able to feel, because dance heals, dance unifies us, dance sets us free, no matter who you are, where you come from.”

Abigail said she planned workshops, events and classes to help people of all dance abilities discover themselves and broaden their horizons through dance.

“We’re right across from Compass in C-Square,” she said.  “This studio encourages people to become one with their bodies. No dance experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. You will be guided to move, sweat and have a ton of fun through movement.

“Come try out some classes, hire the space for a creative event, or just come say hello,” Abigail said. “We are really excited about bringing this venture to the community and letting as many people know about it as possible.”
