Saxophonist brings jazz magic to Nambour

Andrew Butt’s performances are known for their sense of space, beauty, and emotional depth.

Brisbane saxophonist Andrew Butt, described by ABC Jazz as a stalwart of the Australian music scene, is set to bring his award-winning talent to Nambour. Butt has made his mark performing with some of Australia’s leading jazz artists, including James Morrison and Emma Pask, and touring extensively through Europe, the USA, China, and New Zealand.

His latest album, Peregian, inspired by themes from everyday life, won a 2024 Queensland Music Award, with the track “Le Baiser Sale” also taking home the jazz category prize. Butt’s playing style draws inspiration from jazz saxophonist Paul Desmond, known for his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Like Desmond, Butt aims for a light, melodic sound that has a unique charm.

Andrew Butt’s performances are known for their sense of space, beauty, and emotional depth. His distinct saxophone style has captivated audiences globally, and his Trio’s concerts are described as intimate, immersive experiences that bring a blend of original compositions and jazz standards.

• The Andrew Butt Trio will perform tracks from Peregian along with classic jazz standards at The Jazz Sessions, held at The Presynct in Nambour. The concert will take place on Thursday, 12th December 2024, at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online through oztix.com.au, ranging from $17 to $28. Enquiries 0403 152 397.
