Absolute Vision is a long established Optometry practice in the centre of Nambour, which was purchased  three years ago by Optometrist, Vanessa Greasley.

“It was great to come into a practice that had such a wonderful reputation and it has allowed me to establish myself in the community after many years of travelling around Australia practising as a locum,” Vanessa said.

“While I really enjoyed the travelling I ultimately wanted to settle in a community, and I have found the perfect spot in Nambour.”

With 18 years of experience Vanessa has a particular interest in children’s vision and visual development. “I practise and enjoy all aspects of Optometry, but over the years, I have become particularly interested in children’s visual development,” she said.

“A lot of children have binocular vision disorders and this is an issue that is not always picked up by screening. If parents are noticing that their children have a close working distance, frequently blink, rub their eyes, squint, close an eye or have headaches, I would highly recommend they have their eyes tested.”

Vanessa says that all children should ideally be regularly tested from the age of four, or earlier if there are noticeable problems.

“It may seem odd to suggest that children need to have their eyes checked so regularly, but the reality is that regular and excessive screen time is having a huge impact on children’s eyes and their development in general,” Vanessa explained.

“There are few people who don’t use screens at all, and as we age, it is important to take care of our eyes and have them regularly checked.

“We live in such a visual world that losing our eyesight is quite devastating. With respect to children, issues with their eyes can cause all kinds of learning and other developmental problems which can often be sorted out, starting with simple eye tests.”
