Toastmasters celebrates 35 years

On the 1st November 1985, 22 enthusiastic Toastmasters celebrated the charter of their new club, Nambour Toastmasters.

Last Thursday it was fantastic to have two of those charter members, along with past presidents, past members, current members, and visitors gather to celebrate Nambour Toastmasters 35th Anniversary. Unfortunately, numbers were restricted due to COVID plans.

From the beginning, a vibe of excitement could be heard as past and present members caught up. Our two charter members Laurie and Gerhard shared how the club was formed. Past Presidents shared how they had been motivated, encouraged, and supported in their leadership. Even the reluctant leaders admitted being a president was the best thing that they had done.

One of our charter members Gerhard Sliwa surprised us by telling us he was 91 years young that day. We all want to be as switched on as he is.

All present had the opportunity of sharing what Nambour had given to them.

It was an honour to have our International Director Lesley Storkey and our District Director Barbara Nielsen attend our celebration which was a fun filled evening, full of memories and stories that spanned the last 35 years.

The highlight of our sumptuous supper was a beautifully decorated cake that was cut by Shirley and Pauline.

Ralph Smedley our founder says that we learn best in moments of enjoyment.

Nambour Club lives up to that motto.

Should you wish to further develop your communication and leadership skills in a caring and supportive environment, and you are over 18 years of age, we would  love to have you visit our club.
