There are few natural landscaping products that can match the timeless appeal and beauty of sandstone. It is a product that automatically adds style and value to your landscaping project or home.

In recent years it has become the hero of home garden design, where it traditionally was more commonly used in large scale commercial projects.

“Happily it is more readily available now, and accessible to people with a broad range of tastes and budgets,” said Coastal Landscape Supplies Director, Kylie Pitt. “Sandstone has become one of our signature products because it is so strong, hardy, and can be used in so many different ways.”

Sandstone is a durable material, but it is also quite soft. This means it can be sawn, cut or carved relatively simply and easily.

“Many people are unaware that using sandstone in your landscaping design and structures can assist to minimise erosion,” Kylie said. “This is why it is so commonly used in retaining walls. Architects and designers often favour sandstone because it is a stone that lasts for decades, and provides a natural warmth that becomes even more attractive with age,” she said.

“We are finding that our customers are using sandstone for steps, seating, garden furniture, as feature tiles both in and outdoors, sculptures, pathways, water features and more,” Kylie said.

“It is definitely one of the more beautiful looking landscaping products we stock and it comes in an endless array of colours, patterns, shapes and forms which makes it easy to match to existing decor.

“An added bonus is that neutral tones radiate heat during winter and are cool in summer, so it is really an excellent product to use for seating and furniture in the garden.

“From unique sandstone letterboxes which are stunning statement pieces, to sandstone rocks and sawn sandstone, we can supply you with sandstone for projects of any size,” Kylie said.

“If you can’t see what you are after on our website or in the yard, just ask us and we can source it for you. There are almost as many uses for sandstone as you can imagine and in terms of longevity, it will be around for a lot longer than any of us!”
