BUSINESS WRITEUP: RangeCare 

The invaluable services provided to Range residents by RangeCare would not be possible without an army of caring and passionate volunteers. Volunteering is an important foundation of our community and there are many ways in which people can help.

“RangeCare’s volunteers play a significant role in supporting both our clients and staff,” said Volunteer Coordinator Cara Doherty.

“We have an incredible team of over 150 volunteers who typically contribute over 10,000 hours of their time each year. This generosity allows RangeCare to support our clients in living their best life through delivering a comprehensive range of services.”

RangeCare works with their volunteers to best match their skills and areas of interest with their organisational needs. They offer a welcoming and supportive team environment, with regular training workshops and events for volunteers.

Cara said volunteers supported the community through a wide range of roles, including Meals on Wheels, driving clients to and from appointments, kitchen volunteers, day respite support, social support and friendship to people in their homes, Op Shop volunteers and office administration volunteers who assist with various administration tasks.

“And they bring a wealth of skills and life experience,” said Cara. “Volunteers often tell us that they get just as much out of volunteering as they give and we love the fact that the benefits are mutual. Through volunteering with us, many people make new connections in the community, feel a sense of meaning and purpose and we know that volunteering increases people’s overall wellbeing,” she said. 

“The benefits that our volunteers bring to our clients, the communities in which we work and to the organisation as a whole are innumerable and we are very thankful for their generosity and support.

“I started volunteering with RangeCare to get to know more people in the area and make new connections. It was important to me to connect with people who care. It’s giving me interesting things to do with my time. I don’t feel like the visits are part of volunteer work, it’s more like visiting a friend now,” said RangeCare Volunteer Marie Miclo.

“It’s good for me to have a friend like Marie, because I do get lonely. I’m more of a shy person, so it’s nice to have someone visit me at home. I enjoy speaking the same language. We talk about many things – cinema, TV, politics. Sometimes we go out for coffee. It’s very good, excellent” - Annie Belaubre (RangeCare client)
