Lind Theatre celebrates 75 years

President Glenda Campi and Life Member Win Lindsay.

On December 6, 1945 a meeting was held to establish the Nambour Amateur Theatrical Society (NATS). 75 years later, on December 6, 2020, past and present members gathered to celebrate at the theatre in Mitchell St, Nambour.

The group, which now is usually referred to as simply “The Lind”, has had several homes over the years, and a few name changes. “The Lind” came from one of those locations, on Lind Lane. Where’s that? These days, underneath Nambour Plaza!

A trip down memory lane was presented by current president Glenda Campi, and long-time treasurer Gwen Griffin (whose memories came in poetic form).

Cr Rick Baberowski, in his address to the gathering, said it was unlikely there was anyone still around who was there at the very beginning.  So it was a wonderful surprise for all that 93 year old Norma Dickson, who was at that very first meeting, is still very much around, lively and funny (and even did a little dance).

Foyer plaques with names of Presidents and Life Members were unveiled by the longest-reigning life member, Win Lindsay.

After the presentations, a slideshow of hundreds of photos played while members caught up with old friends over afternoon tea and drinks.

2020 has been a lean year for theatre, but the Lind managed to stage two Covid-safe shows; one with an audience maximum of 20 per show, and one with 50% capacity. Plans for next year are well underway, as theatres can now go back to usual capacities.

The first play for 2021 will be George Bernard Shaw’s funny and sharp Arms and the Man, which runs from 26 February to 6 March.
