Woombye State School staff, students and parents raised $3756  last Wednesday (March 30) in a Shave for a Cure event for Leukaemia. 

The event was organised by Dawn Hebblewhite who is a cleaner at the school and whose husband died of Leukaemia 20 years ago.

“My husband passed away at 52 from Leukaemia and the school has been great,” she said. 

“Every few years we do a fundraiser to help the children give to others, by including all children who wish to colour for “Shave for a Cure” with gold coin donations. 

“This is a fun time for them. We have had students also with Leukaemia, and this fundraiser helped them to know that the school was behind them.

“We had a number of teachers, and school captains doing the Shave this year, and even cleaners,” Dawn said.

“I had two lovely ladies shaving for the first time and we are all raising funds for Leukaemia (blood cancer).”

The hairdressers from Uptown Hair were on hand to cut the locks from the various “braveheads” and earlier in the day children were able to colour their hair for a gold coin donation which raised nearly $300.
