New chef serves up fresh summer menu in time for Christmas

As was the case with many businesses forced to close or restrict trading earlier this year, the management and staff of the Woombye Pub took the opportunity to give the building a refresh and revitalise in preparation for reopening.

The Pub has been the cornerstone of life in Woombye village since the late 1800s, and the building and bistro menu have been given a ‘once over’ to well and truly carry it into the next decade.

“We were really fortunate that we had the bottle shop because we were able to continue to operate it through restrictions,”  Publican Mark Welchman said.

“And as the Bistro and bar had to be closed, we decided to use the time to give them a well deserved freshen, clean and tidy up.

“Fortunately, the size of the Bistro allows us to comfortably operate within social distancing guidelines.”

As soon as it was permitted, the Pub offered a takeaway service for evening meals and staff were blown away by the support.

“We have such a close and supportive community here in Woombye and they really got behind us with the take away meals,” Mark said.

“I suppose it was one of the positive aspects of the whole situation. People genuinely wanted to reach out and support local businesses.

“It is thanks to that, in combination with JobKeeper that we were able to keep our fantastic team of permanent staff employed throughout.”

As part of the refresh, new staff in key positions and a new chef have joined the team to bring fresh perspectives and experience to the Pub.

“Our new chef Joe Vaiana, has worked in hotels and restaurants around the Coast for many years and he has definitely been the driving force behind our new menu,” said Mark.

Seasonal, local produce

“We are very excited about our revamped Summer menu which has a very distinct focus on fresh, seasonal and local produce.

“Our long standing Bistro favourites have remained on the menu but we have added fresh new dishes with a local, summer twist that we are looking forward to bringing to our customers. There is an emphasis on beautiful, locally caught seafood, steaks, delicious vegetable dishes and sides, and plenty of gluten free options. Being a family friendly venue, we haven’t forgotten the kids either. There is a dedicated kids menu and a tasty pizza menu.”

The Woomybe Pub offers a newly renovated private gaming room, boasting the latest in Dragon Cash and Lightning Link machines with Tiki Fire, High Stakes and more not to mention some old favourites including Spring Carnival, Choy Sun Doa, Pelican Pete, Red Baron all linked to a Jackpot Carnival system, topped off with some standalone Quadshot machines, you can’t go wrong.

If you don’t feel like playing the machines the public bar features a designated TAB area and separate KENO lounge for those seeking a different experience.

Private function space

Boasting one of the largest private function spaces on the Coast, The Woombye Pub is a fantastic venue for your next event.

It is ideal for work Christmas functions, birthday celebrations, engagement parties, product launches, business meetings, and the list goes on.

“Our team can easily create a food and beverage package to match the style of event you are hosting,” Mark said. “Whether your function is for 25 or 250, we have the experience and expertise to make your event a huge success.”

The Woombye Pub is open 7 days and has a free courtesy bus for patrons which operates Friday & Saturday nights, Sundays from 12, and is available for special event nights.

“Pickups may be available from Highworth, Rosemount, Nambour, Burnside, Coes Creek, Woombye, Kunda Park, West Woombye, Palmwoods, and Forest Glen,” Mark said.

“We have basically taken care of everything for you. We are all geared up and ready to help you enjoy your next visit to the Pub!”
