New Year’s resolution: do something practical to help the environment

Keen bushcarer Mona Bruckhoff is fighting the good fight against weeds.

Fancy some weed-busting in the new year? Rain means weeds are growing fast so there’s more to do and Bush Care Sunshine Coast is calling on volunteers.

If you would like to break any holiday season lethargy a couple of hours of weed busting on a Saturday should do the trick. It may not sound like fun, but it is. At least according to Bush Care Sunshine Coast Coordinator Norm Morwood.

“It’s all free and you’re doing your bit for the environment,” he said. “And it’s fun. And more satisfaction than you can poke a stick at.”

Norm has been a Bush Care Coordinator since 2012 at three Nambour sites: Namba Creek, Florabunda Pocket at Victory Park and “Gulung Gung” which are local Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi words for “Family Connections Country”. Gulung Gung is just downstream from Quota Park.

If you’d like to help, come in bush protective clothing including boots/shoes and a hat. Weeding starts at 7am and finishes with a cuppa about 9am. “We’ll have all the tools and equipment needed, but bring your own favourites if you wish,” said Norm.
