Couple celebrates 65th anniversary in Fred's 100th year

At 100 years of age, Fred Sandell has just celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary with his wife Jean.

The former Kenilworth couple, who now live in Nambour, received cards from the Prime Minister and The Queen to mark the anniversary which they celebrated on September 29.

It was a very special day and their bridesmaid Margaret Hanson travelled from Brisbane with her daughter to join them for reminiscing and laughter.

“Margaret and mum had been school friends,” said daughter Mirth Fabbro.

“Mum had set a special table up in her home with her wedding album and it gave everyone a lovely chance to remember the special day again.”

The family held a small gathering of close family friends at Mirth’s home for a luncheon complete with cake and bubbles.

“The happy couple received cards and certificates from The Queen, Prime Minister, Premier, Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Governor of Queensland, State MP for Nicklin Robert Skelton  and Federal MP for Fairfax Ted O’Brien.

About four years ago Fred and jean sold a property which had been in the family for 100 years in Kenilworth, and moved to Nambour.

“They both are still fiercely independent, active and live at home,” said Mirth.

Jean and Fred’s bridesmaid, Margaret Hanson, left, travelled to the Coast to help them celebrate.
