Annual Memorial Day raises $1000 for Bloomhill Care

Club Yandina (Yandina Bowls Club) members feel there is no better way to honour the lives of members who have passed, especially those who suffered from cancer, than to hold a fun Memorial Day to raise money for cancer care.

As 2023 is the Club’s 70th Anniversary, this year the fun included dressing up for a Retro Memorial Day with bowlers turning out in the fashion of yesteryear; all whites or funky 70’s gear. It was a fantastic day, with over 40 people attending to raise $1,000 to be donated to Bloomhill.

“This is our second year holding our Memorial Day to raise monies for Bloomhill,” said Chairman Leon Granzien. “And we will be doing it all again next year as part of our annual calendar of events.”

Bloomhill Donations and Fundraising Manager, Tessa Biddles thanked Club Yandina. “This level of donation makes a huge differ- ence to actually being able to deliver the care services that we provide to people,” Tess said. “This is a very meaningful contribution.”

Joe, an assistant with Bloomhill, and a cancer survivor, said some of the activities Bloomhill provided were only possible because of such donations. “During my cancer recovery, I was cared for by Bloomhill and have a first-hand appreciation of what they provide and how important the activities are in the cancer recovery process”, Joe said.

“On average it costs in excess of $1400 a year to provide subsidized care and support for a client,” he said. “The $1,000 is a signifi- cant amount in providing subsidised support through those months of treatment and will make a difference.”

“When we talk about it being meaningful, that’s what we mean,” Tess said.
