Sunday Happy Days Festival to bring 50s fun to Woombye

Cars, colour, bands, markets and dancing ... Sarah and Nathan Major from Cool Cats Dance Studio and Skye Parker ham it up to promote the May 5 Festival.

Prepare to step back in time and immerse yourself in the nostalgic charm of the 50s and 60s at the upcoming Happy Days Festival in Woombye. Organized by the Woombye Community and Business Association (WCBA) in collaboration with Bendigo Bank Woombye, this free festival promises a day of retro-inspired fun for the entire community.

The May 5 festival aims to celebrate Woombye's rich history and vibrant community spirit while showcasing local businesses and fostering a sense of pride in the town's heritage.

The festivities kick off at 10 am along Hill Street, which will be closed from Blackall to Campbell Street. A stage beside the School of Arts will host live music performances from 10 am to 6 pm, along with entertaining competitions, prize-giving ceremonies, kids’ performances, and emceed by the charismatic Howard Riach.

Rock ‘n Roll Dance in the Main Hall

As evening approaches, the highlight of the event is a ticketed rock ‘n roll dance in the main hall starting at 6 pm. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their finest 50s attire for a chance to win prizes while enjoying live music by the “RocknRollaBillys” band.

For those new to dance, Cool Cats Dance Studio is offering free workshops throughout the afternoon, catering to various styles and experience levels. Nathan Major, a dance instructor, encourages attendees to join the dance and experience the joy of the era firsthand.

Market Stalls and Classic Cars

Before the dance, attendees can explore market stalls, admire classic cars on display, indulge in delicious fare from food trucks, and enjoy family-friendly activities including a petting zoo.

WCBA President Milo Frawley expressed gratitude to the community and local businesses for their support, emphasizing the festival's significance in bringing people together.

With its blend of dance classes, live music, and retro vibes, the Happy Days Festival promises to be a memorable celebration of Woombye's past and present. Save the date, dust off your dancing shoes, and join the festivities on May 5.

• For more information about the festival and how to get involved, contact the WCBA at woombyecommunity@gmail.com or attend their monthly meetings held on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7pm.
