Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy (RHPT) is a three-year-old charity based on the Sunshine Coast.

Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy is partnering with the Flaxton Barn to hold a fund-raising afternoon tea and on Saturday September 2. There will be some fantastic prizes up for bidding, which have been donated by generous local businesses.

“Our beautiful Benevolent Bear ‘Arabella’ will also be auctioned on the day – Arabella is currently on display at the Mapleton Post Office & bids are currently open.”

Come along and support RHPT for a fun afternoon in support of a wonderful cause. All funds raised helps RHPT to offer our group maintenance programs without charge for people with Parkinson’s.

RHPT offers intensive speech therapy for people with Parkinson’s, using an approach developed in the United States called ‘Speak Out!’

“We teach people how to get their vocal strength back - the strength that Parkinson’s is stealing away,” according to Speech Pathologist & Board Member Cathryn Shapter.

“We also offer weekly group therapy and a weekly choir as part of our therapy maintenance programs.”

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing brain disease in Australia. It takes away people’s voice, movement, confidence and ability to participate socially.

“But it doesn’t have to be this way,” said Cathryn. “Research and therapy programs have delivered life-changing results when people with Parkinson’s are taught to engage different brain pathways for moving and speaking.”

Under the program people with Parkinson’s learned to “move with intent, speak with intent and live with intent” to regain their voice, their movement and their quality of life.
